Work and Life Experience
Work and life experience includes a combination of factors that demonstrate your readiness for higher education, including professional and/or work experience (including in the Australian Defence Force), interviews, and the Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT).
Special Tertiary Admissions Test
Never completed year 12 or any other higher education? You may wish to use the Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT) to gain entry into University.
The STAT is a two-hour, multiple-choice test designed to assess a range of skills and knowledge needed to study at university.
The South Australian Tertiary Admissions Centre (SATAC) coordinates the STAT as well as your application to university. To sit the test, you'll need to be over 18 years old before 1 February in the year that you wish to commence study. If you have been enrolled in the last two years, you must not have done more than two years (full-time) tertiary study in total.
Where and when
Or, if you'd prefer, you can complete the STAT online via the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) website.
How to prepare
For information on how best to prepare for the STAT, visit the ACER website and download their Candidate Information Booklet.
Note that the University of Adelaide only requires the STAT Multiple Choice Test.
Australian Defence Force
Use your recognised qualification from the Australian Defence Force to apply for credit and meet the entry requirements for your chosen degree.
In most cases we recognise your professional military studies, experience and skills which may allow you to gain entry into a wide range of our degrees. In most cases you will require a Certificate IV or above to meet the minimum entry requirements. If your qualification is relevant to the degree you've applied for, you may even be eligible for credit, which means you can take a shorter time to finish.
Who is it for?
The scheme is for current, past and Reserve ADF members of all ranks, who meet the entry requirements of the University for the undergraduate or postgraduate qualifications on offer.
